Purpose and Values
School Purpose and Values
At the heart of our school are a set of core values. Together with a broad and balanced curriculum these aim to ensure our pupils leave Lady Bay as happy, secure, caring and responsible citizens.
Our school motto is ‘Growing Together: Caring for ourselves, each other and the environment'
We believe we can achieve our best through collaboration. We work together as a team, where every member feels valued and included. We believe that diversity is a strength, which should be celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here. We are fortunate to be at the heart of a thriving and creative community and through working in partnership with all our stakeholders we aim help every pupil to flourish and succeed.
Our School Values are:
Respect Enjoyment Determination
Collaboration Curiosity Reflection
Respect
We choose to treat ourselves and each other with kindness, warmth and respect, believing that everybody matters. We want every child to respect the world in which they live and become proactive citizens in the stewardship of the environment.
Enjoyment
We have an ambitious, creative and challenging curriculum; enriched with exciting learning experiences. We aim for every child to have fun in their learning developing their unique skills and talents. We believe if we succeed in giving children the love of learning, the learning itself will always follow. We have a unique Lady Bay School ‘offering’ which gives every child the opportunity to develop a range of skills in addition to the National Curriculum.
Determination
Our pupils do not to give up and demonstrate ‘stickability’! We always strive to push the limits. We aim to help each child overcome any self-imposed limits and encourage them to be aspirational in their goals. Our children persevere with tasks and understand that deeper learning takes place when we are faced with a challenge. We would like our children to leave as confident learners, ready for the next step in their learning journey.
Curiosity
We are on the search for discovering what’s possible and aim to create ‘Eureka’ moments for our pupils. We help our pupils to be inquisitive about the world around them and help them to become curious and creative learners. We want our children not to just accept what they see or hear, but to ask questions and be driven to find their own answers.
Reflection
We celebrate every child's achievements in and out of school and help children to show pride in their work. Our pupils receive high quality feedback so that they can recognise their strengths and what they need to improve. We encourage our pupils to develop self-awareness including their mental health and what can have an impact on this. We care about our pupils’ well-being and ensure we nurture them in their personal growth. We encourage a positive culture towards making mistakes and help children to understand that mistakes are an important part of a learning process.

British Values
The Department for Education published guidance on promoting British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. The guidance aims to help both independent and state-maintained schools understand their responsibilities in this area.
All have a duty to ‘actively promote’ the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
These values were first set out by the government in the ‘Prevent’ strategy in 2011. The assemblies carried out by the Senior Leadership Team will cover each of the above principles throughout the year. Please see below for examples of the current assembly content as well as the School British Value Statement.
